Annual Show & Tell
Jason Wilson, historian for PA Capitol Preservation Committee, will present "The Commonwealth's Capitol Restoration Project." Mr. Wilson will describe the preservation and maintenance of the art, architecture and history of the Pennsylvania State Capitol Building and Complex. Shoot Some "Soups" Slam-Dunk "Souper" Madness Event 12 Noon-2pm @ Dauphin Firehouse Corner of Peters Mountain Road and Elizabeth Avenue. Come sample 20 different soups & vote for the best! Taster's Kit Five Dollars. Mr. Fuller Runyan, Operations & Maintenance Manager of the Department of General Services Annex Complex, will present "Reflecting on 16 Decades of the Harrisburg State Hospital". Mr. Runyan will lead us through a journey using historical documents, photos, post cards and newspapers of the first hospital in PA built for the care & treatment of the mentally ill. **Please note change in date!** Mr. Frank Grumbine, Community Preservation Coordinator for the PA State Historic Preservation Office in Harrisburg, will present "Historic Architectural Styles of Buildings in Dauphin & Middle Paxton Township." Our Community history is reflected in the broad range of building designs from form to function. Ms. Janet Donovan, CEO of the Girl Scouts of the Heart of PA, will present " The Change-Making Legacy of Girl Scouting." Ms. Donovan is a retired rear admiral of JAG, US Navy. She will talk about the long history of Girl Scouting (originally called Girl Guides), which dates from 1928 in Dauphin-Middle Paxton Township. Ms. Joyce Kieffer, local author of the historical fiction Trees Trilogy, will present "Life in Central PA at the Turn of the Century." Ms. Kieffer dedicated 6 years to researching life in Central PA during the late 1800's and early 1900's. Her talk will delve into local ecology, racism, classism, and gender inequality, all themes in her Trees Trilogy series. Holiday Dinner |
